A retirement resignation letter is written by an employee due for retirement, before beginning the service of his/her notice period as specified in their contract. The letter serves as a written record of the beginning of the process of termination of the employee’s term of service as it specifies the last working day of the employee. Unlike a standard resignation letter, a retirement resignation letter is anticipated and expected.
A retirement resignation letter is called so because the reason for the resignation is retirement. It is different from a standard resignation letter in the sense that there is only one reason behind the composition of such a letter, unlike other situations where the writer might move on to a better opportunity. The retirement resignation letter is similar to a standard resignation letter in its format and appearance. These letters are also written only in professional capacity. They are not farewell letters and must not be maudlin or emotional in tone.
Tips For writing A Retirement Resignation Letter
- The letter must be short and to the point.
- The writer must thank the company and his/her employer for the opportunity but professionally and it should not border on sycophancy.
- Neither should the writer seem smug about the fact that since he is retiring the welfare of the company is of no concern to him/her. It is only polite to offer to help smooth out the transition process and train the recruit.
- The letter should allow the writer to exit with dignity.
