A ‘get well’ letter is meant to cheer up an ailing person and to express your genuine concern for her welfare. However, do remember that being cheerful does not mean being frivolous. You could suggest that you wish to spend some time with him or her once she recovers and that you miss the ailing person. You should sound encouraging. Make sure that you don’t pity them. Since this is not a formal letter, you can also discuss other things and people so that they are aware of what is going on.

However, do not to the point that they feel like they are missing out on things. While writing the letter keep a check of the things you say or mention so that it doesn’t hurt them or make them feel sad about not being present. Take care of the tone of the letter as well. Ideally, it should be soft, positive and encouraging. Lastly, tell them that you miss them and that you will be meeting soon. The letter should be concise and short and yet be able to convey your concern and feelings properly.
You should use a positive and cheerful language.
You should not appear pitying the ailing person or show that he or she is helpless.
You need not be formal in your tone which can be relaxed and casual because a get well letter is not a formal letter even if you are writing to a colleague or boss.
You should also be ready to offer help in some form.
Be sure to check for grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors which are not permissible even if it is a comparatively casual letter.
