A donation letter is also termed as a fundraising letter and is written for charity. Donation letters are categorized into two types. One is a Donation Request Letter, and the other is a Donation Thank–You Letter. The first category may be either financial or non-financial.
For example, a letter may be written to collect clothes for Tsunami victims. Alternatively, funds can be sought in order to construct an old age home.
However, when it comes to the second category, it may be for thanking the donor for the support offered and also for informing them of how the donation has been used. One common aspect that is seen in all donation letters is that they require you the convince the receiver of your product or genuine need.
The task of compelling people to shell out their money or their belongings is not an easy one. Individuals must be convinced by your cause.
Donation Letter Template Writing Tips
- A personal touch should be added. The name of the possible donor should be written in the Salutation section, and the letter can be sent to his/her address.
- The details, background, and achievements of the organization must be mentioned. This gives a signal that the organization is serious about their work.
- The proposed plan of action for supporting the cause has to be clearly stated.
- The reasons for seeking a donation must be spelled out. If the manner in which the collected funds will be used is mentioned, it is likely to be more effective.
- The type of donation should be specified. The mode of payment should be mentioned clearly. If one wants donation in kind, then the manner in which those items will be collected should be mentioned.
- Be honest. Most often, the receiver will recognize a genuine case from a non-serious case.
