A Donation letter is a letter written by an organization or an individual to business people/ welfare society by fund request. If it is an individual person he writes this letter to a welfare society for fund request as the welfare society basic motto is to provide service. If they find the reason is a valid one the society itself will take the full responsibility in helping. So basically this type of letter is intimating the society where they should be needed. On the other hand, the letter is written by an organization to company head mention the purpose of the donation and how that person is resourceful to them.
Most of the Donation letters written by the organization were to known business people, i.e., the people who helped them previously. This is because there will be a mutual understanding between the person and the organization. Hence the organization will have better results, i.e., they will have confidence in receiving the funds. Even if the organization is writing a letter to an unknown business person, they do background search about the person before writing the letter i.e. whether the person has any interest in funding the organizations and whether he had done any social services in the past. Anyways it is better to have some knowledge about the person and his interests before writing a letter for a social cause.
