Saying goodbye can be bittersweet. Whether you are bidding farewell to a friend, relative, co-worker, boss or special someone, writing a letter to them can make them feel special about the bond that you two share. Naturally, writing a goodbye letter is emotional and it is even more difficult to make it sound funny. However, a funny letter can be very effective in telling how you feel subtly.
Funny goodbye letters are often written to people who are close to you like your best friend, your brother etc. The fun element in the letter can make the goodbye a little less hard for the other person. Follow the tips and samples given below to write a funny goodbye letter.
Tips to write a Funny Goodbye Letter
- Know your audience: Before writing a funny letter, know what relation you have had with that person. Its okay to write a funny letter to your friend but not to your boss. Be careful with that!
- Don’t be formal: As it is supposed to be funny, being formal isn’t needed. Use casual language instead.
- Be funny yet display emotions: While writing the letter, remember that even though you are being funny, you are still able to convey your emotions at suitable intervals. After all, it is a goodbye letter!
- Tell your plans: Since it is a goodbye letter, you must also mention how you would like to stay in touch later. Share your new contact details if possible.

Hey Girls,
RE: Goodbye!
I am going to Hollywood tomorrow! I am so excited! My mom just called, and I shall be boarding the plane tomorrow night. I have to pack, and I have no time to go over to inform you personally. Hence, I am writing this letter of farewell.
I do hope I will not forget my favourite PJs or my lip gloss in my haste. What do I say to Tom Cruise if I were to meet him? Or Johnny Depp? Oh, I feel so faint already at the thought of meeting them. Don’t worry; I will get their autographs for each of you. Do wish me luck to get up close with either of these Hollywood hulks.
Please take care of my stuff while I am away; do not let ‘curious Myra’ touch my stuff.
See you gals in 2 weeks; enjoy your term break!
Lots of Love,
Bianca
