Farewells are heartbreaking. It is not easy to say farewell. It is very tough to say goodbye in any of the situations to any person whom you love. It is not always very easy to bid goodbye to your dear ones especially if it’s your sister or brother or parents. A farewell always does not necessarily carry pain or sadness but it also carries immense joy. It may sound a little bit emotional or awkward but it is the truth. Writing a goodbye letter is extremely difficult for the writer to write and also for the person who is going to read it. It is very difficult for both the parties to deal with it. It takes patience, good will and hard work to communicate properly. An ill written letter may lead to a miscommunication too.
If your sister is leaving town and you want to write her a farewell letter, then make sure that you really mean it and write everything from the bottom of your heart. Since this might be the last time before you see her for at least a year or two, let her know how much you love her. Explain that you are going to miss her badly. And explain to her how she has been nice to you throughout the time the two of you have been together.
Farewell letter to sister Writing Tips
- Farewells are not easy, especially when it comes down to siblings. However, once you have taken the decision to bid them goodbye, defend and prove it.
- The letter can be informal.
- It depends on your bonding/closeness with your sister. Once you have inquired about her health and life in the start, you can simply start off with the main motto i.e. saying goodbye.
- Tell her the reason for writing the letter. Also, jot down that you are going to miss her.
- Then, explain to her that you are going to call her or going to write her more letters or video call her and keep in touch.

Dear __________(name),
Hey there! How are you, my dear sister? I am writing this letter to wish you goodbye and best of luck for your career, since you will be leaving town for your higher education. It is has been a known fact that the last sixteen years which we have spent together have been the best memories ever. And also these 16 years were the best of my life and I will lock them in the deepest chambers of my heart and soul till eternity.
You have been a good advisor, a good friend, and a good caretaker. Not to mention, you are my biggest rival and motivation too. You have been my most favorite member of the family. And it’s because you always took a stand for me in all the difficult circumstances of my life. Moreover, you were always there for me when I needed you the most; through every thick and thin. That is why I love you so much. I cannot express my feelings about what you are to me in my life. However, I hate the fact that you will be leaving all of us to move to North Carolina with your friends for your studies. This is probably the worst news that I have heard in this month. I could not bear this news when I first encountered it. You know how close the two of us are and it will be hard for the both of us to survive without talking to each other on a daily basis. But, I have got some other backup options. We can speak up over Skype or Video call. I am planning to call you twice a week. I know that you are going to get busy with your studies, but I am sure that you can spend some time to chat or talk with your little sibling.
This letter is to bid you farewell before you depart tomorrow morning. Always remember, that I am available all the time for any help that you need. Also, I love you more than anything in this world and I am definitely going to miss you a lot, dear sissy.
Love,
