Whenever someone writes a recommendation letter for a student, it is important that it tries to concentrate on the student’s strengths rather than weaknesses. It is essential to know what program or course the student is planning to apply for. According to that, you can highlight his skills that can complement the course which he is applying for. State various experiences with the student and how you think a particular trait of the student makes him unique.
You have to write this letter only if you believe that the student deserves a seat for the program or course for which he is applying. Emphasize this especially at the beginning and end of the letter. Do not forget to share your contact details in the recommendation letter. It is important to note that, if you feel that the candidate does not deserve a seat in a particular program then please do not write the letter.

Dear XYZ College Admissions Committee,
It gives me immense pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Mr. James Ford, having served as both his English teacher. I believe James would be an excellent addition to XYZ College.
During his time in high school, James has always challenged himself with whatever task he was assigned to do. He is an energetic participant in class discussions and asks genuine questions which help his peers to learn as well. James has a good track record in extracurricular activities. He has worked as the editor of our high school paper for the past three years and has written some wonderful articles. This has earned him an award for the Best Article written for the year.
I strongly believe that James has a lot to offer to the school/college he is applying for. If you have any queries regarding James’s character or his background, please feel free to contact me at (555) 555-5555 or monica.white@email.com.
