It may so happen that one may be behind schedule in the completion of some important work or have a presentation to be made as a group. Whatever the reason, such situations necessitates staying after office hours to finish work on time. This is called working over time.
There are two types of overtime, the ones which the employers themselves request and pay an additional salary for, and the overtime which the employee’s request for, to work which is usually unpaid for by the company in monetary terms.
When an employee or a group of employees working overtime in the office premises, they need to get prior approval from the concerned authorities i.e. request letter for overtime allowance is needed. This is done so that the management is kept abreast with the work being done, for the security of the employee etc.

Subject: Requesting approval for work time.
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request your approval for my team and me to work after the working hours from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This is because of our project, which, due to the presentation the next week needs to be worked on before it can be presented.
We have been unable to make the necessary changes in our project during office hours as most of the team members were busy with other work.
Hence I request you to kindly grant my team of 4 members leave to stay after hours at the office.
Thanking you in advance.
Sincerely,
Edward Black.
