A change is as good as relaxing. A trip of any kind provides you with a break from the norm. It’s therapeutic to make a change from your daily routine- doing so prevents your mind and body from stagnating. Life is so hectic now that everyone needs time to switch off.
Travelling broadens your mind and can also inspire you. When you strip away the hustle and bustle of the working week, you get to know who you really are. Sharing the experience and re-living those moments makes your spirit, even more, higher.
It’s always nice to receive letters from family and friends, but what’s more exciting is, when you send a mail to your friend about your recent holiday trip, spiritedly!
A holiday letter is written with the intent of writing to a very dear friend/close person the details of a holiday one has been on. A holiday letter is an extremely informal letter, filled with references to friendships and family, food, and social gatherings. Such letters are descriptive of the destination of travel while being reminiscent of one’s place of origin or hometown.
A holiday letter is also somewhat melancholy as it expresses the desire to come back home, or the feeling of homesickness. A holiday letter is typically long, written with plenty of interjections, conjunctions, and references, or indirect speech.
Sample Holiday Letter Writing Tips
- Always keep in mind that since you’re writing an informal letter, the tone of the letter has to be friendly, warm and cheerful.
- Be open with your words and describe the places around you keenly. Make sure the receiver of your letter is someone who is aware of your current whereabouts and is concerned about your well-being and enjoyment.
- While writing a holiday letter, she also expressed interest in the receiver’s holiday plans, in what he/she has been up to, what he/she has been doing, or had promised would do.
- Make sure you don’t gloat about your holiday or how good it has been. This will not make the receiver feel good about getting a letter from you.
- Pepper your letter with slang, interjections, phrases, and memories to make your letter special.

Hello!
Greetings from _________ [insert name of the place you’re in]!
It’s heavenly here, and I wish you were here with me. We’d enjoy the sights so well together. The architecture is just the type you love. And the food is delicious! I’ve clicked a lot of photographs of the people and the places and the shops and the clothes around here—I’m sure you’ll enjoy them all.
How’s life there? Can’t wait to be back home— I am feeling homesick already. Give my love to your parents. Only a week more and then I’ll be back.
Waiting to see you soon.

Dear Sophia,
Greetings from London! Gosh, it’s like a dream come true— being here! You would know, of course! How many times have I gushed to you about my dream of traveling to Europe—and now it’s come true! I can just imagine you smiling as you read this letter. Trust me, I miss you loads, I wish you were here!
London is, by the way, breathtakingly beautiful. The weather’s gray and damp, but that does nothing to dampen my spirits, let me tell you! We have just returned from a city tour, and I saw the most amazing wax museum ever—the Madame Tussaud’s Museum! It has wax statues of all these celebrities and greats, and it was exciting beyond belief to click all my pictures with those statues—almost like standing next to the real person! (you have no idea how excited I am)
How’s your vacation going? Are the art classes any good? I’m sure you’ll teach the teacher a thing or two about pencil sketching—don’t you always! We should meet up because I have endless things to tell! Anyway, write back soon, I’m waiting for your reply. Can’t wait to get back home and hug you tight!
Love,
Jennifer

Dear Mr. Frank,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I will be unable to attend office for fifteen days from 13th August to 28th August 2013 since I need to make arrangements and attend my sister’s wedding. I will report back to work on 29th August 2013.
My father is not keeping good health due to old age. Hence I have to be present by his side to supervise and conduct my sister’s wedding. Although I have tied up for most arrangements, my physical presence is essential.
I will complete my tasks and confirm the same to you before departure. I will also brief and hand over my duties and responsibilities to Mike, my team-mate for the duration of my holiday.
My contact details are already available to your office for an urgent requirement. I request you to approve my leave for fifteen days and oblige kindly.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Yours sincerely,

Dear Brajesh
Switzerland is best at any time of the season, but during Christmas its beauty and charm are different. I couldn’t believe we had been the land where one of the best players of tennis, the legend and the one and only Roger Federer resides. And to top it all, we got a chance to meet the legend personally.
I loved the snow, Christmas trees, celebrations, carols, gifts, chocolates, lights, watches, cheese, and all. Although the cheese has a petulant odor it was agreeable to taste it once. I must tell you I enjoyed the cuisine there a lot. We really enjoyed the Alps, the Rhine falls, Lake Lucerne the most. I even enjoyed being to places where most of the Bollywood movies have been shot, one of my favourites is Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge.
The scenic beauty of Switzerland can never be forgotten. I’m sending you the pictures of the heaven we visited; “Switzerland.”
Have fun and take care.
Yours lovingly,
Nikita
